Creating a March Journaling Spread

Creating a March Journaling Spread

As the days grow longer and the earth awakens from its winter slumber, March invites us to embrace renewal and balance. It’s a perfect moment to set new intentions, plant seeds (both literally and figuratively), and embrace the energy of light returning.

This month is marked by the Spring Equinox, also known as Ostara, a celebration of light returning, new beginnings, and the awakening of nature.

The Spring Equinox, occurring around March 20th-21st, is a pivotal solar festival marking the perfect balance between day and night.

One powerful way to attune ourselves to this seasonal shift is through journaling. A March journaling spread incorporating the lunar calendar and the themes of Ostara can help us synchronize with the rhythms of the natural world and deepen our connection to the Wheel of the Year.

Why Journal with the Lunar Calendar?

The moon has always been a guiding force, influencing tides, emotions, and energy cycles. By tracking the lunar phases in our journal, we can work in harmony with its ebb and flow, recognizing when to set intentions, take action, reflect, and release.

For March, the lunar phases offer key moments of reflection and manifestation:

  • New Moon (March 10th): A time for setting intentions for growth and renewal, aligning with the fertile energy of spring.
  • Full Moon (March 25th): Known as the Worm Moon, this is a moment for gratitude, celebration, and illumination of what we are cultivating in our lives.

Creating a March Journaling Spread

A well-crafted March journaling spread can serve as a sacred space for your thoughts, goals, and reflections. I created my March cover page using black fineliner, markers and some stickers from my Dark Forest Sticker Sheet. It is simple to recreate—you’re more than welcome to do so! Or, of course, you can create your own unique interpretation. Let your creativity flow and make it your own! ✨

Here are some elements to consider including:

1. Monthly Overview with Lunar Phases

Design a simple but magical layout that includes the dates of the new moon and full moon, alongside any significant planetary movements or personal milestones.

2. Intention-Setting Page

Dedicate a page to your Ostara intentions. Consider journaling about:

  • What seeds (literal or metaphorical) do you want to plant this season?
  • Where do you seek more balance in your life?
  • How can you align with the renewing energy of spring?

3. Seasonal Symbolism and Gratitude

Decorate your spread with seasonal imagery such as:

  • Sun and moon symbols to represent the balance of the equinox.
  • Leaves, flowers, and seeds to honor the earth’s renewal.
  • Personal doodles, pressed flowers, or stickers that embody Ostara’s magic.

Include a gratitude list to acknowledge the abundance already present in your life.

4. Habit and Mood Tracker

Use symbols or a color-coded system to track habits, emotions, and daily rituals. Observing patterns in your mood and energy levels in relation to the moon and seasonal changes can offer deep insights into your personal rhythm.

Enhancing Your Connection to the Season

Beyond journaling, there are many ways to embrace Ostara and the arrival of spring:

  • Spend Time in Nature: Take mindful walks to observe the budding trees and blooming flowers.
  • Plant Seeds: Whether in a garden or a small pot indoors, planting something signifies hope and new beginnings.
  • Create an Altar: Decorate your space with seasonal symbols, such as fresh flowers, eggs, and candles in soft greens and yellows.
  • Ritual Bath: Infuse your bath with herbs like lavender, rosemary, or chamomile to cleanse and refresh your energy.
