At the moment, I’m working on a new illustration for the upcoming spring season. This piece will definitely become a postcard with sparkling gold foil details, adding a magical touch to its atmosphere. My inspiration came from that early feeling of spring—the moment when you can sense the change in the air before anything is visibly different. It’s that subtle shift, the scent in the breeze, the energy of nature awakening. That’s the emotion I wanted to capture, just like the fox in my illustration senses the coming of spring.
The waxing moon in the background is a symbol of growth, mirroring the tiny green buds beginning to sprout on the branches. It’s a time of renewal and quiet anticipation, and I wanted to bring that feeling into my artwork.
For this piece, I’m working with gouache on black watercolor paper (Canson Noir), which gives it a deep and rich contrast. It has been a wonderful experience to revisit this medium and explore its possibilities on a dark background. In addition to gouache, I’ve incorporated other materials, such as Sakura Gelly Roll pens and Pan Pastels, to add texture and vibrancy.
In the next blog posts, I’ll share more progress updates as the illustration evolves. One thing is for sure—the fox will definitely get its fluffy tail! Stay tuned for more insights into my process and the final transformation of this spring-inspired artwork.
